Swimming in Circles

Original pencil drawing.

12" x 9"

This piece commemorates the life and work of Mac Miller, an artist who passed away Fall of 2018. The event of his death hit my community whom attached great importance to Miller's work. I intended to honor Miller with this piece, Swimming in Circles, which has namesake in reference to two of his albums, 'Swimming' and 'Circles'. These two albums together concieve the phrase 'Swimming in Circles'.  However, Miller sadly passed before the release of Circles, which was thus released posthumously. I was inspired by this sense of completion that heeded Miller's passing as well as the circular imagery. I felt, placed behind Miller's portrait, a circle did well to highlight the artist's quiet mastery of music.
